"In any field of academic study, peer review is an important process. Sending
an author's work to other experts in the field serves two main purposes.
Firstly, it enables a draft to be scrutinized for errors or falsehoods. Secondly,
it encourages authors to raise their game, as they know their work will be
subject to rigorous scrutiny.
"If this process is important in mainstream science, it is arguably more
important in what might be termed fringe science areas such as the study of
the paranormal. This is because in such areas there are no universally
recognized standards and no formal institute or institution that represents the
subject. There are experts, of course, but they are effectively self-proclaimed
experts or people who are popular within their field of study. But in such
controversial areas as ufology or psychic research, one person's hero is
another person's villain.
"Applying the peer review process to such subjects will not bring about some
instant change whereby mainstream science and academia suddenly recognize
the legitimacy of study into the unexplained - let alone the legitimacy of the
phenomena being studied. What it will do - for exactly the reasons articulated

at the beginning of this introduction - is raise the quality of material and deter the various charlatans
who bedevil these areas of study. In the longer term, this can only help the process of more
widespread and mainstream academic acceptance of such fields of study.
"With the above in mind, I very much welcome the launch of the Journal of Frontier Science. Steven S
Bass is trying to bring some scientific methodology into the study of the paranormal and the
unexplained. This can only be a good thing and should inject a degree of quality control into vast
areas of study that are, at present, almost entirely unregulated. The Journal of Frontier Science should
build into a useful resource, whether it's for students undertaking school projects, members of the
public trying to study an area of interest, or TV companies seeking contributors for documentaries. At
present, people seeking information on fringe science subjects will simply use a search engine and
check out the websites that are displayed most prominently. Unfortunately, such a process often
rewards those people with good websites, not those with good information. A one stop shop of peer
reviewed material on such subjects would go some way to rectifying this problem and I therefore give
my wholehearted support to this exciting new venture." - Nick Pope

from seasoned veterans who wished to remain anonymous due to damage such
information would do to their career.
A member of MUFON since 2008, Robert’s focus is in bringing the UFO question out
of the realm of pseudo-science by means of rigorous experimental methodology,
using current, publicly accessed technology in order to demonstrate to the
mainstream scientific community the physical validity of these occurrences.

THE FOSTER RANCH AND THE BLM by Dennis G.
Balthaser
I was surprised when recently, (10 years later), I read an article
penned by Anthony Bragalia, entitled, “Roswell Crash Revelations
from the Foster Ranch”, in which I got the impression that he
believed there was some conspiracy or cover-up by the BLM
about the ranch.
