of a Canadian Airliner Sees a Mysterious Object,” from the newspaper “Montreal - Morning,” January 12, 1967.
On August 11, 1994 at about 9:45 p.m., in the area north of the town of Béziers, province of Herault, France, a
woman driving a car saw “two slightly orange beams of light which crossed, and a third which lighted the ground.”
These beams were DISCONTINUOUS! “They appeared as two headlights on an oddly-shaped machine, with two
masses connected between the lights.”

newspaper (Montpelier). This observation very closely resembles that of the airline crew mentioned above! It should
be noted that at this time there was a mini wave of UFO sightings in the area of Herault! There were several
observations during August, September, October and November, 1994… (See “Lights in the Night,” nos. 327, 328,
329, and 331. Thirteen cases are mentioned in these editions of this review.)
These three incidents of “discontinuous” UFO beams happened not far from open water!!!
Information from Herve Clergot: In a bulky file of newspaper clippings from the Varoise region covering a period of
more than 40 years which one of the readers of the review had the extreme kindness to forward to me, I discovered
a case which naturally fits in this article. The interest of the observation also lies in the fact that there were three
different witnesses to the event. The length of this newspaper page (practically 60 cm) was impossible to include in its
entirety in the review. Therefore, in order not to deprive you of this interesting information, I recopied the article and
scanned the drawings and photographs illustrating it in order to give you an overview of the subject in question here.
The newspaper article is signed by Gerard Petitjean and the illustrations are by Paul Teulades. Here is the article in
question:
Valley of Rebouillon: The saucer projected “broken beams making an angle.” Those who witness UFO phenomena
often provide details which “are not invented,” but which seem incoherent because they do not fit our normal Earthly
logic. Thus, in the business of the UFO of Rebouillon, the witnesses declared that the apparatus emitted “broken”
rays in a clear sky. These statements greatly intrigued the policemen in charge of the investigation and a similar
observation of “broken rays” was made a month later in South America (Note of H. Clergot: The case in Peru in
December 1966 mentioned previously.) One event validated the other for the specialists who, however, did not very
clearly understand the purpose of the broken rays. Those who had thought the beams of light from the UFOs always
moved in a straight line started to doubt their previous assumptions. These saucers with “broken beams at an angle”
were very perplexing.
Two headlights in the night: On July 19, 1966, about 3:40 in the morning, Rene Hebre, Andre Bouchaud and
Henriette Guillaume were driving from the Martre to Draguignan by the NR 555. They were preceded by a car driven
by George M.
The night was clear. Rene Hebre had just crossed the strait of Frayeres and the hamlet of Rebouillon when, abruptly,
Bouchaud says to him: “Stop! There is a flying saucer!” Believing that Bouchard was joking, Hebre did not comply
with the request, but finally, on Bouchard’s insistence, he slowed the vehicle.
“It is then,” he stated, “that I saw two large headlights slightly above us. They moved quickly in our direction. I
continued slowly driving and during the descent we saw beams of light which were sometimes obscured by the trees.
“Just a little before a quarry, where I approached a turn, I abruptly saw in the night an odd machine which was
stationery above us at a height of 200 or 300 meters. At the same time, my car radio (tuned to the short wave
station which broadcasts programs all night) abruptly stopped playing. I turned off my car lights and stopped the car.
I looked at my wrist-watch; it was 3:45 a.m. While getting out of the vehicle I saw an ovoid mass flattened on its two
faces, big, like two cars. One of the ends of the machine was shaped like a kind of short narrow stem which was lit
up." It moved without noise and projected beams towards the ground. “I also observed four port-holes on the
machine. It seemed to turn on itself and moved without noise. At a given time it lost altitude; it descended to a score
of meters from us. At this point, suddenly, several thin beams of light came on at the base of the apparatus and
brilliantly lit the ground. Those which were located at one of the ends were ‘broken’ in the sky. After a few minutes,
the lights died out and the machine went on its way towards Draguignan. Then, it turned obliquely and left in the
direction of Lentier. It crossed the strait and disappeared behind the hill."
Here are the facts: Andre Bouchaud and Henriette Guillaume separately gave the police consistent testimony on the
appearance of these broken beams of light. All three provided sketches of the three aspects of the UFO’s appearance
(reproduced here). But, there is another element that comes into play. The sketches do not agree about it in detail
(which is normal) but it came out during the investigation that the M.O.C. (Mysterious Heavenly Object) changed
shape over a period of minutes.
George M. who passed by this area about 3:35 a.m. also saw an odd object in the night: “I had just passed the
hamlet of Rebouillon when I saw directly ahead and approximately 250 meters in the sky a circular object resembling a
Camembert cheese box. It was about ten meters in diameter and was uniformly lit. It moved and did not emit any
noise.”
This testimony is important because a few days later a shepherd, Mr. Marius Gal, came forward to make a statement
to the police: “On the night of July 18th or 19th I went to feed my sheep at Heisse. It was about 10 p.m. I suddenly
saw above a small valley an object that was round and shining like the moon. It was not the moon because the moon
rises in another direction. This machine was motionless at approximately 300 meters in the sky. It was a little oval and
then became spherical, then it disappeared without a sound." This change in form over time is well known to
investigators of the group L.D.L.N.
One night of observation around Draguignan: From all these testimonies it seems that a unidentified flying object was
seen at a fixed point on the night of July 18 - 19 in the area of Dracénoise. The first appearance took place at 10 p.
m., the last at 3:50 a.m.. After this phenomenon, Mr. Hebre had to replace a part (the frequency converter) of his car
radio even though his radio was new. It will be noted, as in many cases, that the machine, after an observation very
close to the ground, left in the direction of the Valensole plateau, which seems to be a sector of attraction for UFOs.
It should be noted also that the departure of the machine was partly related to the operation of the car of Mr. Hebre
who said, “When I extinguished the headlights of my car, the object which was above us also extinguished its
beams.” Finally, checks carried out with the Air Force (E.A.L.A.T.) stationed at Cannet-des-Maures, confirmed that
there were no military aircraft in the sky in the area of Châteaudouble-Rebouillon on this night.
On July 21, two days after the observation in the valley of Rebouillon, an unspecified object showing the same
characteristics and emitting “broken” rays of light was seen by several people in the west of the Central Massif. On the
22nd of the same month an identical event was reported in the area around Paris.
We will conclude by stating that the witnesses are serious people, worthy of faith, and that one of them, André
Bouchaud, was only just beginning his adventures … five years later he was going to witness events even more
disconcerting.
The photographs:
The object as it was seen in the valley of Rebouillon above the “Gragegone.” Andre Bouchaud: “It was a mass the size
of a car which moved slowly without noise above us.”
A machine such as this was drawn by the three principal witnesses at the time of the investigation carried out by the
police. In spite of some variations in details, the principal lines agree.

On January 1, 1970 around 7 p.m. in the
southern part of Vancouver Island, Canada, a
UFO was seen by several people living in Mill Bay.
It resembled a moving vertically oriented “egg.”
According to the principal witness Jim Drummond,
at one point “… something left this object… It was
like a ray of light similar to a very thin neon tube,
and it was broken, somewhat like the dots and
dashes of the Morse code. The light came down in
a curve then, in a flash, it died out entirely… ”
After this strange performance, the object first
went up in altitude and then disappeared towards
the south.

On the evening of December 29, 1966 above the coast of
Peru. Witnesses, captain Robert Millbang and 4 other crew
members of a Canadian Pacific DC-8: As the plane flew
toward Lima from Mexico, they saw “two [moving] white
lights” above the coast of Peru. Captain Robert Millbang
stated, “I continued to look and one of the lights started to
waver, indicating that it changed intensity. Then I saw two
luminous rays coming from the lights and pointing towards
space in the shape of V. The strange object seemed to grow
bigger all the time, and at one point it projected a sparkling
beam, as one sees on the tail of a rocket… The object
continued to approach and we could see a succession of
small lights between the two large ones… .”
