Researchers probing into the new mysteries of Ufology in the 1950’s and 60’s were a different breed from the
Ufologist of today. Tempered by an environment of hardship, the first UFO researchers had been toughened by
economic depression and war. They delved into a field of study no one of the time period had ever heard of, and
tolerance for “wacky” beliefs and abnormal thinking was slim at best. From this atmosphere of hardship was born a
researcher of extraordinary tenacity, who pursued evidence of other life and other civilizations with dogged
determination.
As time has slowly gone by, the Ufologist of old began to fade away, to be replaced by a new, modern Ufologist.
Today’s researcher is more apt to believe or accept the likelihood of extraterrestrial life existing within our galactic
neighborhood. Conditioned by a sensationalist, unscrupulous media, a higher level of general education, and a
tendency to accept the possibility of a conspiratorial nature in today’s American government, it is difficult at best to
find someone today who refuses to even consider the possibility of other civilizations alien in nature.

Ufology today is plagued with fraudulent evidence of UFO
activity. One of the most notable is the 2007 case of the ET
drone ships photos and CARET documents. These photos
were proven, after much effort from the expert scientists of
MUFON’s Special Team Operations – VERITAS (STOV Team),
to be the product of imagination brought to life by
advancing special effects technologies. The documents also
received a determination of counterfeit.
Confusing the issue is the almost certain likelihood of covert
psychological operations initiated and managed by
clandestine factions of our governments and militaries. The
goal of these operations is to “chum the waters” with
enticing proof that a gullible public and less than thorough
investigators would latch onto, only to have the proverbial
rug pulled out from under them when the same covert
organization supplies evidence of deception,
discouraging researchers and numbing the general
public to the issue. Within the confusion, it has been
easier to conceal legitimate substantiations proving
the existence of extraterrestrials that might
incidentally present itself amongst the flak of
fraudulence.
Interspersed within the body of Ufologists are
oversized egos and desires for fame and recognition,
all of which greatly hinder progression and
intelligence/data collection and advancement within
Ufology. This one dynamic, if uncontrolled, can be
more detrimental to Ufology than the aforementioned
covert psy-ops. This dynamic is most insidious
because Ufologists do this to themselves.

With a formal method of accountability, Ufologists who remain true and motivated toward excellence can stand out
from the “bottom feeders” of Ufology, those who champion unsubstantiated hypotheses as fact to the exclusion of
good, fundamental research. Finding a vehicle within which honest Ufologists can police their ranks and hold “Better
Business Bureau” of Ufology, which would be unmanageable without dedication to established principles and an
acceptable, much less complicated method of distribution and vetting research. This vetting method would be
challenging at best to implement without the cooperation of true Ufologists. The need for such a method is
paramount if Ufology were to last another 50 years.
